I used to love going here and getting affordable junk that people threw out. I have no problem giving them a couple of dollars for their efforts.In recent times though,the transfer station workers have gotten greedy and charge more and more. I don't know if they are pocketing the profits or just trying to make money off of peoples trash. And if no one buys it for their overpriced sum, they eventually throw it out. This used to be a great resource for Puna, both in keeping trash out of the landfill and providing lower income people with affordable clothing and household items. I would like to see it become such a great service to the community again one day.
The people at the place that you donate things rip off people. People give them free stuffs and they sell it for A lot of money. They said the money goes to fix up the rubbish dump. But I haven't seen anything done. Don't take things to donate there that's my opinion. The security guards there are on top of things.
It is a blessing to have free, clean water and to be able to dispose of trash quickly and also for free! Bottle refunding is also much quicker and easier here than in other states!
The best place to fight gentrification, materialism, and over production. Recycle, reduce, reused. Can always find what I need. FOR FREE
Fast & easy drop off on most days. Recycling center open a few days a week too.
