Ive had nothing but good experiences with the Keaau post office staff. I have a large number of boxes and packages sent to me, and since i work in kona its very hard for me to make it in to pick them up so ive had quite a bit of contact with the staff. They have been more than helpful on the phone when ive called to ask them to put boxes in the outside lockers, been willing to look up tracking on parcels, and answer questions, and never been overtly rude to me. Ive never seen them behave in anything but a professional manner to anyone, what i have seen are some less than pleasant customers, who were handled as well as could be. I also usually walk away when the post office is completely packed, so i may not be seeing the worst side of things....for either party
But then, reading the last review, I guess it's a consistent thing...not just with mis-sent mail.
I've been using the Keaau Post Office since 2003. The employees there have always been courteous and helpful. Sometimes they're busy and can't chat but I've never seen them be anything but friendly and helpful.

One of the worst P.O. in the US. If you're not a local, they go out of their way to make your experience as bad as possible. I was waiting in line for the girl behind the counter to stop catching up on the gossip and pick up my antique radio. I handed her my slip...no hello, just a sneer. Out she comes with a box that had 4" tall lettering. "FRAGILE", on every side. She looks right at me with a sneer and drops it on the counter from almost a foot high.
Nice small town post office, friendly staff. Right next to shopping center parking lot where i use to park and enter from side to get mail.
I'm not too surprised though after living the Island for 7 years. The whole Island has the "right of entitlement" going on.
The post office doesn't deliver mail to certain parts of Puna so a lot of us have PO boxes. Unfortunately, our mail gets sent to our physical address by accident. It seems like a huge issue and I'm guessing they deal with a lot of mail like this because the PO staff are extremely rude when you call to ask. Before they'd hold your mail for 10 days, then it changed to one day and now it's sent back immediately. Which is fine I guess, better in some ways.
I understand it's frustrating when people call to ask. I hope the staff at Keaau PO can understand that it's incredibly frustrating on our end also, especially when we gave the sender the right shipping address. But if PO staff are that frustrated, they should probably bring it up to management to do something about it rather than take the situation to another level and have customers write junky reviews.
